There is a song on repeat in my head as I am writing this post. It’s not christian and the lyrics don’t completely relate, but somehow it is my theme song in seasons like this. Seasons of stillness. Stillness is the move.
Solomon said it best. In every season his words in Ecclesiastes 3 ring true. There is a time and season for everything under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 3:1) We often associate faith with some type of progressive movement, but I’ve found that sometimes our faith goes through seasons that force us to take a step back, be still, and wait patiently for God to fulfill His promises.
I have grown to appreciate this season of faith because I now have the expectation of God glorifying Hisself through me at the conclusion of my stillness. I must admit, my sentiments have not always been so positive. This season is, in my opinion, one of the most difficult to go through. Stillness is uncomfortable and can even be draining. Especially for those that attempt to combat this journey by prematurely advancing to a season of movement that God has not orchestrated. It is so important to exercise patient endurance. Absorb all that can be learned and allow yourself to mature. Do not try to work out what God has promised you, no matter how desperately you feel the need to. This season may last longer than you desire, but remember God’s timing is always right. Allow Him to glorify Hisself, in His way, and in His time. Simply be still and know. (Psalms 46:10)
There are many stories in the word that demonstrate stillness being the move. If you have time this week I recommend the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-45).
XO,
Courtney
